According to the Irish Times, the Irish prison officers' association surveyed approximately 10 percent of the State's prison officers. Two thirds said that they felt unsafe at work and a whopping 86 percent felt that they were not being adequately protected. Only one in eight of the officers surveyed said that they were proud to be prison officers, and nearly 75 percent said that they would quit if they found a better paying job.
Part of the reason that we work to make sure that prison conditions are safe is for the correctional officers who work there day in and day out, not just for the prisoners. We're wondering what a survey of PA Correctional Officers like this would show.
